Wait, so did they also make up the ritual gestures as well? I loved tracking the different types of bows (standing, kneeling, fists vs flat hands, depth, etc.) for different types of people/relationships and of course context, but I assumed they were based on historical court forms. Do you know if these are an interpolation of later periods with visual references or from historical descriptions of etiquette or ...?
