Sorry to disappoint— JY doesn’t die (at least, not for some time) and the sequel is years down the track about his heir!
Nirvana in Fire is actually happy as far as Wuxia goes in the sense that MCS’s death is telegraphed from the beginning, he achieves what he wants to achieve so dies with a sense of purpose/fulfilment, and other than that, no one dies who doesn’t deserve to, as far as I recall. (I mean, other than in flashbacks. Lots of people died who didn’t deserve to in the past, which is the whole premise of the story.)
