Thank you, this was very educational. I knew about the censorship and suspected cultural attitudes doing the rest. I however don't think the relationship of Yunlan and Shen Wei is the *only* thing enjoyable about the Guardian drama. (Idk the novel, but can understand from other fandoms that helpless rage when a visual adaptation strays too far from a beloved book, or just gets things wrong).
